Art – Subject Content


Year 7
Pupils complete 5 projects during the year covering a range of Art skills and techniques. Pupils get the opportunity to experiment with a range of both 2D and 3D media.
Pupils have 1 piece of art work to complete for homework each half term that is related to their project
The current projects year 7 complete are:
Drawing project – Bugs
3D Papier mache – Bugs
Painting project –Inspired by the work of an artist
3D Ceramic project – Cylinders
Printing Project – Silhouettes

Year 8
Pupils complete new projects following the same 5 Art disciplines completed in year 7.
Pupils further develop their skills and techniques completing the following projects:
Drawing project – Portraits
Painting project –Colours and Tones
3D Papier mache – The Last Supper
3D Ceramic project – Landscape tiles
Printing project – Illuminated letters
Pupils have 1 piece of art work to complete for homework each half term that is related to their project

Year 9
Edexcel BTEC First Level 2 Art and Design Award.
The assignments covered are:
An Introduction to specialist pathways in Art and Design
2D – Communicating ideas in 2D
3D –  Communicating ideas in 3D
EXAM – Creative project in Art and Design
Pupils are given a brief. They must respond to the brief showing a development of ideas into a final plan. They then produce a final piece. During each assignment pupils must complete work form observation using a variety of media. Pupils must also research the work of artists to inspire their own work.  Self and Peer evaluation of the work enables pupils to further develop their Art skills and techniques.

Year 10
Pupils follow AQA GCSE ART & DESIGN
During the 2 year course pupils will develop their Art skills completing 3 projects and a final exam project.
Each project must include work from each of the 4 assessment objectives. These are:
• Working from observation
• Artist research
• Using a variety of media
• Development of a Final piece
The first project is teacher led allowing pupils to develop their skills using a range of media and gain an understanding of the expectations for a GCSE project.
The second project allows the pupils to develop their own ideas for the direction of their project and develops their independent learning skills.
The third project will be completed in the second year of the course. Pupils will be given a mock exam project to gain an understanding of what is expected  during the Art exam.
These projects count as 60% of the final GCSE grade.
The final project is the exam. Pupils are given project titles set by the exam board and develop their ideas with the support of their teacher during lesson time and at after school sessions.
The exam consists of a 10 hour practical exam. Pupils will complete this over the course of 2 school days and during the exam they will produce the final piece for their project.
YEAR 11

Extra Curricular Activities
Art club is on Thursdays 3-4pm
The talented Artist’s group meet on Wednesdays 3-4pm.
The Shave Gallery

The Art department have their very own Gallery made with wood donated by Mr Shave a parent of one of our talented art students.

The gallery exhibits work produced by all year groups with evening exhibitions showcasing the work of our BTEC and GCSE students.
