Student Support

The pastoral system is at the heart of the college community and strives to ensure that all students are given the highest level of support and encouragement throughout their time at Testwood School.

The Pastoral Team is led by three Progress Leaders, one leader for Years 7 and  8, one for Years 9 and 10 and one for Year 11.

The Pastoral Team is also supported by and has excellent relationships with a wide range of agencies that support our students at various times in their college careers, and to support students with their own personal development and challenges that they might face.

Each student is assigned to a Tutor Group and one of four houses, Bedivere, Excalibur, Galahad and Lancelot. All students stay with the same Tutor for the five years of their college life, enabling supportive relationships to be built between the school, students and their parents/carers. The Tutor therefore becomes the first point of contact.

Each day begins with a 20 minute structured tutor period, which includes literacy and numeracy activities, allowing Tutors to build positive working relationships with their tutees and to ensure students are ready and organised to start the day.

The house system is used for inter-house competitions which take place throughout the year, culminating in Sports Day at the end of the year. All students have the opportunity and are encouraged to participate in these activities.

There are a vast number of extra-curricular activities available and we strongly encourage our students to make the most of the opportunities available to them in order to become fully involved in college life. This will also help to prepare them for life beyond Testwood School.

The wellbeing of our students is of utmost importance as is the partnership between the college, parents and students. Therefore, please do not hesitate to contact the Pastoral Team should you have any questions, queries or concerns.

We look forward to working with all of our students and parents throughout the year and offer a warm welcome to our new students and parents.
