Easter Newsletter

April 2017

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the Easter Newsletter from Testwood School.  We’ve had some great football, rugby and table tennis matches, a Battlefields trip which our Year 9 students attended, a Stem careers event ran by Bournemouth University for our Year 9 female students and a Rock Challenge are just some of the great events that have taken place during this term. You can read all about these events and more, in the Testwood Review that your son/daughter will be bringing home shortly, so please have a good read!

I would like to take this opportunity of thanking all of the students and staff for another fantastic term of hard work and progress.  This is my last opportunity to wish Year 11 luck in their forthcoming GCSEs and hope to see lots of them at the Easter revision school which runs next week.  Please encourage your sons/daughters to take advantage of this intensive additional revision opportunity.

It was a privilege this week to see dozens of Testwood students perform ‘We Will Rock You’ and it was lovely to see so many parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles who came to support the stars.  Hearing children sing ‘We are the champions’ was very moving.  Please may I thank all of you for the kind comments that you made about the school, the staff and the performers.

Leave of Absence Reminder

As Headteacher, I can no longer grant approval for holidays taken during term time.  The guidance states that only in ‘exceptional circumstances’ may leave of absence be granted, ‘at the Headteacher’s discretion’. Parents should not plan to take children out of School for holidays during term time.  Applications for such reasons will be turned down and the absence recorded as unauthorised.  Persistent unauthorised absence and poor punctuality may lead to fixed penalty notice fines or referral to the legal intervention team.

Our attendance currently stands at over 92.5%.  Thank you to the vast majority of parents who fully support us in this area. This is lower than last year and so we would like to encourage you all to do everything you can to ensure that your son/daughter attends school as much as possible. Let us hope that I can report an improvement in those figures by the end of the summer term.

Sports Relief/Comic Relief

Thank you to all of the students and staff who took part in raising money for Sports Relief.  The College raised £587.86 on Friday 24th March when we had a non-uniform day.

Thank you for those who supported and were involved in the Sport Relief/House Matches week. It was excellent fun and it was wonderful to see the children enthused for charity

Goodbye and Good Luck!

We say goodbye and wish the following staff the best of luck as they leave Testwood at Easter:

Mrs Gadd – Art Teacher

Mr Orman – Cover Supervisor

I would kindly request that students do not add colour to their hair during the Easter break and that the rules regarding uniform, jewellery and make-up are followed during the summer term.  Please refer to our uniform guide (which can be found on our website:  www.testwood.hants.sch.uk and also in the student planner) for further information.
